Elastic Lines

Elastic lines—also called shock cords, bungee lines, or stretch leaders—are specialized tackle designed to absorb sudden pulls and reduce break-offs when fighting fish. Unlike standard monofilament or braided line, elastic materials stretch under load, which cushions the shock when a fish runs hard or head-shakes. This flexibility makes them valuable in situations where line strength alone isn't enough: targeting aggressive species, fishing light tackle in heavy cover, or working with delicate presentations that demand a softer connection between rod and fish.

These articles cover how elastic lines work in different fishing scenarios, what materials perform best for specific conditions, and when to use them instead of conventional line. You'll find information about rigging techniques, matching stretch properties to your target species, and understanding the trade-offs between elasticity and casting distance or sensitivity.
